New Yorkers’ busted out the Gatsby gear, for this outdoor bash where part of Governors Island was transformed into a Prohibition-era soiree, complete with old-timey touches like ’20s motorcars and functional antique gramophones. We caught Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra playing jazz staples, as well as performances by dance group Dreamland Follies and musicians Gelber & Manning. Between sets we shopped and snagged cool accessories and goods from vintage collectors and artisans and sipped decade-appropriate cocktails.  My lobster roll sandwich and kale salad with green apples and red grapes were a delicious combo from Carbone’s Fancy Foods.  It was a magical afternoon and something all ages could enjoy!!!
Under a canopy of century-old trees, caressed by fresh sea air, a sprawling green surrounded by historic architecture is the setting for this trip through time – a dream of the 1920s nestled right in the heart of New York Harbor.
Widely anticipated by flappers, sporting gents and tiny tots alike, the event has been revered year after year by The New York Times, The New Yorker and countless media around the globe. Bill Cunningham was spotted with camera in hand as was “I am Dandy” photographer, Rose Callahan.
1920’s classic style was everywhere – flappers and Dandys in their finest.
