Born in 1929 in Chicago, Skrebneski attended the the Art Institute of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology . Skrebneski set up his own studio in Chicago in 1962 and got his first big break as the exclusive photographer for Estée Lauder‘s ad campaign. He is also well known for his celebrity portraits of Cindy Crawford, Bette Davis, Oprah Winfrey, Audrey Hepburn, David Bowie, Barack and Michelle Obama and so many more. He was truly one of the best talents to come from Chicago.

I once had the pleasure of sitting next to him at a dinner given by socialite and design maven Judy Niedermaier. . . He said, “I like New York but Chicago is better.” and proceeded to tell me why . . . .

Countess de Ribes in her heyday had vertiginous cheekbones, eyes with a feline slant and the nose of an Egyptian Queen. Yves Saint Laurent described her as an “ivory unicorn,” and Richard Avedon photographed her for Vogue. At 28 she was named to the International Best Dressed list and six years later in 1962 she was inducted into its Hall of Fame..
